Valley Quilters Guild
I am a few yards of fabric away from being featured on the show "Hoarders".

Service Committee
The Service Committee organizes the making of quilts from VQG supplies, commonly referred to as “Service Quilts.” Some quilts are started from scratch and some are completed from donations of partially completed quilts. The Service Committee also manages the donation of completed quilts and other items to the Mat-Su Valley community. Some organizations that have an on-going need receive donations monthly, quarterly, or annually, and some receive donations on an as-needed or as-available basis.
The Guild also supports various organizations by supplying quilts for their major fundraising events.
We’ve got two special opportunities going in Service —
Quilts for Special Santa Program
The “Special Santa” program in the Valley helps parents in need by offering free items for their children during the Christmas season. When I spoke with the Director for Special Santa, she mentioned that she’d love to have some baby, toddler and children’s quilts for parents to select. These are always in demand, and well received.
Anyone wishing to make a baby/toddler/child quilt specifically for the Special Santa program may drop off their donation with the Service Committee at any time. Please be sure to let us know your donation is specifically for Special Santa. The deadline is the November 6th Guild meeting.
Thank you to everyone who has donated - so far we have 25 quilts designated for this wonderful cause!
Quilts with Books
What could be nicer than curling up with a fun book, and a quilt made to accompany the book! Example: A child’s quilt made with Dr. Seuss fabric along with a favorite Dr. Seuss book! Or… a quilt made with Peter Rabbit fabric and a book to go with it! Or… a quilt made with train fabric and a book about trains! The possibilities are endless.
If you’re interested in making a baby or child’s quilt to accompany a book, please let me know. I’ve got a lovely collection of children’s books (I will make a list) that may be used. We have two donations - aren’t they sweet! This is a just-for-fun idea - because its nice to have a new project with a special destination. We will take care of getting these wonderful quilt-book combos distributed in the future - maybe even to kids in a remote Alaska village, or kids part of another program. No specific deadline at this time.
The Guild has a great stash of fabric, most of which has been accumulated as donations through the years. Fabric is available to members to make Service Quilts, Fair Projects and other Guild projects. At each meeting, the Service Cart has various projects on it which can be taken home to be worked on (kits for quilt tops, borders to be sewn on, quilts to be quilted, binding to be sewn on, etc.) and returned when that step is done.
