About the Valley Quilters Guild

The Valley Quilters Guild, Inc. was established in 1985 to promote the art and tradition of quilting in Alaska's Mat-Su Valley. Today, our Guild is proud to have a membership of over 200 passionate quilters.

Our core mission is twofold: community service and quilter education. We support our community by donating quilts to local organizations and groups in need—either by request or when needs are brought to our attention by members.

General Membership Meetings

Guild meetings are held at the Palmer Railroad Depot on the first Thursday of every month, with a few exceptions. We begin with a social hour at 6:30 PM, followed by the meeting at 7:00 PM. Most meetings last about two hours, depending on the evening’s program and the number of show-and-tell presentations.

Each meeting features:

  • Fat Quarter and Block-of-the-Month drawings (open to paid members)

  • A Raffle Basket drawing (open to all attendees, tickets just $0.50 each)

  • and more

Our monthly meetings are a time to be inspired, expand our skills, and enjoy the fellowship of fellow quilters. Guests are always welcome!

How does Valley Quilters Guild serve our community?

VQG serves the community by donating quilts to organizations and groups that approach us with their needs. Our members also let us know of special needs in the community, like victims of the Sockeye Fire in the summer of 2015. In 2016, the VQG donated over 166 items, most of them quilts, to various organizations and individuals in the Valley area.

Some of the organizations to which VQG donates regularly are Project Linus, The Children’s Place, HeartReach Center, Red Cross, Alaska Family Services (Women’s Shelter), Alaska Resource Center for Families, and others.
